limbo
liberal white artists and educators will sometimes hand cameras to minority kids and ask them to film their surroundings. unfortunately, kids suck at making movies so these projects always fall short.
eliot rausch, one of my favorite videographers decided to replicate this cliche formula by handing camcorders to undocumented teenagers. when i heard about the project, i assumed the film would suck. i was wrong.
disclaimer: the video starts off a bit slow but if you can hang in there you won't regret it.

blurring the line between documentary film and advertising
obama's campaign hired davis guggenheim, the director behind inconvenient truth and waiting for superman to create this 17 minute campaign ad. while i'm not ecstatic about the use of documentary film in a political campaign, it is one the better campaign ads i've seen.

outsourcing done right
today i went to the 'intersection' conference at pixar and saw leila janah give a compelling talk on her organization samasource. samasource is outsourcing tech jobs to people living in abject poverty in an innovative new way.
